Mudryk doubted joining Chelsea on signing day
Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk might not have ended up at Chelsea in London. Before signing a contract with the "blues", the footballer refused to transfer.
Journalist Ihor Tsyhanyk spoke about this on his YouTube channel.
Mudryk wanted to refuse Chelsea
According to Tsyhanyk, after the teams agreed on the transfer and it seemed that everything had also been settled with Mudryk, all parties gathered in Turkey to finalize the deal.
At the moment of signing, Mudryk received a call from Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta. During the conversation, he promised that the club would sign him in the summer.
Following the call, Mudryk approached his representatives and asked to cancel the negotiations. However, Shakhtar’s director of football, Darijo Srna, urged Mudryk to personally inform Chelsea's representatives of his decision. Lacking the courage to do so, Mudryk ultimately decided to sign the contract.
"President Akhmetov had promised Chelsea they would sign him. The money and all other details had been agreed. But during the signing in Turkey, Mudryk got a call from Arteta. He stepped out to talk, then came back to his representatives and said, "Go tell them I’m not joining Chelsea". Srna responded, "Go tell them yourself". If you’re taking that kind of responsibility, then you should deliver the message yourself. The clubs had already settled everything. Did he go? No, he didn’t dare," Tsyhanyk explained.
